Please ensure you pay close attention to the EBIs you identified following the mock exam and revise the key areas and practise the skills you need to develop.
The Level 4 response and the Examiner's Report on the Merlin question are saved as lesson resources for today in the usual place
Please check the blog for any lessons you have missed to fill any gaps in your knowledge and make use of the revision materials that have been provided - including the invaluable article written by the examiner himself on how to approach the exam!
Research Film Four. Focus on the funding that Film Four gives British Film
and make notes of successful British Films to date that have Film Four
involvement.
Check out the following articles, in particular:
- 06 'Cracking your G322 summer exam paper' - straight from the mouth of principal examiner Jason Mazzocchi
- 61 - Revising depth of field for textual analysis
- 62 - 'Skins': Textual analysis in action (disability)
- 52 - 'Sugar Rush: Sexual Freedom' (sexuality)
Click here to see examples of extracts for you to practice your exam technique. You should work through these as revision over the Easter holidays and must submit at least one exam practice (The extract from 'Primeval' below) on the first day back, Monday 15th April.
Remember the format of the question is always the same - only the bold underlined word is subject to change.
Discuss the ways in which the extract constructs representation of AREA OF REPRESENTATIONusing the following:
- Camera shots, angles, movement and compositon
- Editing
- Sound
- Mise en scene
You should follow up each class exam practice with at least one of these, so that you can a) act on your EBIs and b) practise writing TONS under the pressure of timed conditions! (4 screenings - Take notes on screenings 2-4 only and then 45 minutes to write the essay)
These are the extracts we have studied in class:

In order to ensure your blog is as easy to navigate as possible and it is easy to find your finished construction task, please ensure each post is clearly labelled with one of the following headings:
- Research and planning
- Construction
- Evaluation
- Link to school magazine blog
This also means that those of you who are hoarding lots (I hope!) of work because you are worried about it being uploaded in the wrong order need not worry too much - the labelling process will ensure that we mark your work in the correct order.
Follow this step-by-step guide to ensure that your posts are easy to locate and that you start off on the right foot with the moderator! Click on each screen grab to see an enlarged version. The label headings will be slightly different as the screen grabs were produced for Year 13. Please refer to the headings above.
After looking at your blogs over the weekend, we have decided to extend the deadline for your AS Foundation Production until midnight on Sunday 24th February.
This is the absolute final deadline and no work must be added to your blogs after this time.
Please use the extra time wisely and ensure you have completed all of the work outlined in the progress checklist. S13 is available for all of your study periods on Enhancement Day and during half term. Please email me if you plan to come into school during half term so that I can make arrangements with the Premises team regarding Health and Safety.
You should be finishing your construction now and getting ready to start putting together your evaluation, if you haven't already done so. If you have taken our advice, you will have collated lots of material for your evaluation during the production process, so you should just need to assemble this together. Your evaluation MUST answer the following questions in detail and be presented in an original and creative way - not just typed up in sentences: 1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? (i.e. of music magazines)
2. How does your media product represent particular social groups ?
3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
4. Who would be the audience for your media product?
5. How did you attract/address your audience?
6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
7. Looking back at your preliminary task (the school magazine), what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product? Check out this section of Pete Fraser's blog for some inspiration as to how you may present your evaluation: http://petesmediablog.blogspot.co.uk/2010/11/evaluation-for-ocr-coursework.html
Or open up this Powerpoint presentation which offers helpful suggestions as to how you might approach each question in a user-friendly format.
Good luck - and don't forget the final deadline is midnight on Friday 8th February!
I am very concerned that some of you have still not, for example:
Uploaded photos from your photo shoots (not just the one photo you have selected for your cover) - remember, more than one photo shoot is needed to achieve Level 4. You must include more than one artist and an appropriate variety of mise en scene.
Uploaded details of any planning/layouts/drafts for your front cover, contents page or double page spread.
Made any reference to your contents page or DPS anywhere on your blog - these are essential parts of your magazine and are assessed in the same way as the front cover.
Please make it your priority to get up to date with your coursework as a matter of urgency. In order to submit a Level 4 Evaluation (worth 20% of your coursework mark), you need to allow yourself a week to put this together. More details to follow on the Evaluation this week.
Remember, marks are awarded (and deducted) according to your time management skills in your mark for 'Research and Planning' (another 20% of your coursework mark).
Apologies - I will not be able to make Monday's lesson - 14th January. Please use this time to ensure that your work on sub-genres of TV drama is completed and ready to present back Tuesday period 2. We will have a visiting teacher from Darrick Wood joining us in the lesson - make the right impression by arriving well-prepared with thorough feedback!
Once this is completed, you can use the rest of the lesson to continue with your coursework - your blogs indicate that this extra time is much-needed!
See you Tuesday period 2 and apologies again for any inconvenience.
